KBS GPS Putter Shaft Benefits

February 28, 2024 by Austin Blankenship Leave a Comment

We all know the feeling. We just hit one of our best drives, made smart decisions to get safely onto the green, and have the chance to get a great score. But now… we have to putt. The dreaded challenge that can ruin all of our previous effort. The next thing you know, what looked like a par has turned into a double-bogey.

Are you tired of ending holes with four-putts (or worse)? Racking up costly strokes on the green can turn a good round into one that you would rather forget. What if you could start removing some of those troublesome situations from your game, just by enhancing your putter? KBS GPS putter shafts are the solution you’re looking for.

Why Use the KBS GPS Shaft?

Putter shafts play a crucial role in the overall feel and performance of a putter, influencing a golfer’s ability to control the accuracy of their putts. KBS GPS putter shafts use the latest technology to enhance key aspects of the putting stroke.

These specialized graphite shafts are made from premium crafted composite materials and fibers. They are designed to minimize the deflection bend that is often experienced during longer putts when using traditional steel shafts. The shaft is stiffer than a standard steel shaft, which gives you a more precise feel for where the head is through your full stroke. This lets you experience the same feeling of face awareness in a long or short putt.

The GPS shaft will also absorb some of the vibration on impact, and adds stability to mishits on the heel or toe. The goal is to create a more responsive and consistent feel during the putting stroke, promoting better control over the putter face and improving overall accuracy.

GPS Shaft Reviews

Brian Knudson of Golf WRX gave the GPS a positive review, stating “While no club, shaft, or grip can guarantee you make more putts, I do feel like the stability of the GPS helps me get the ball started on my intended line more often… I feel like the shaft can help reduce one putting factor for me.” Reducing even one factor from the difficult putting process can help you save a few strokes per round.

Bill Bush of Driving Range Heroes considers the GPS one of the best graphite putter shafts on the market. Here, he discusses some of the noticeable benefits from using a GPS shaft:

“By adding stiffness without increasing weight, KBS essentially increases the putter’s MOI with their GPS shaft. This means that the putter will be less prone to twisting at impact… By not twisting on a mishit, or even a center strike for that matter, your putt will stay closer to your intended target line.”

The GPS shafts come in a variety of colors, with matte and gloss finishes available. We carry all standard colors, plus special rainbow, blue wave, and USA editions. The shaft is available for glue-in putters only. If you’re not sure if the shaft will fit with your putter, please contact us.

No shaft or putter is going to make putting automatic, but they can make it easier. With the KBS GPS shaft, you’ll notice a difference in your game and gain confidence in your putt.

What is a Golf Launch Monitor?

February 6, 2024 by Austin Blankenship Leave a Comment

The Basics of Launch Monitors, How They Work, & How They Can Improve Your Game

When you think of golf, “advanced technology” probably doesn’t come to mind. After all, this is a sport that’s been played for nearly 500 years. But that doesn’t mean that the game of golf has remained unchanged since then.

Technology has played a huge role in the development of golf, especially in recent decades. And that fact is nowhere clearer than in the development of the golf launch monitor.

So, what is a golf launch monitor? How does it work? And how can it help you improve your golf game? Those are the questions we’ll explore here.

Let’s get to it.

What is a Golf Launch Monitor?

Golf launch monitors are sophisticated electronic systems that measure a host of data points about your club and ball, before, during, and after you make contact. All of this data is analyzed by a powerful computer that’s then able to predict the shot to an incredible degree of accuracy.

But launch monitors don’t just tell you how far your ball will go or how badly you’ve sliced it. They can drill down on angle, spin, and so much more. All of the information provided by a launch monitor is invaluable for understanding and improving your swing.

Depending on the model, a launch monitor will give you:

Ball Speed: The velocity of your ball immediately after impact. This number is the primary data point used to determine distance.

Carry Distance: The distance your ball travels in the air.

Total Spin: The amount of spin created around the tilt axis. This number is used to determine the shot’s curve and lift.

Vertical Launch Angle: The vertical launch angle (also called “launch angle”) is the ball’s initial vertical angle relative to the ground.

Horizontal Launch Angle: The horizontal launch angle (also called side angle or deviation angle) is the initial horizontal angle relative to the target line.

Spin Tilt Axis: This is the axis that your ball is rotating around. It is used to estimate your shot’s curvature and lift.

Back Spin: This is one part of your ball’s total spin. It helps to develop a picture of the ball’s trajectory and lift.

Side Spin: This is another part of your ball’s total spin and it helps define its curvature.

You can get immediate feedback on what you’re doing right (and wrong) without needing a golf pro to tell you. Then, you can work to fix whatever issues you may have with your swing.

But launch monitors aren’t just for correcting problems. Today’s tech allows for golfers to play entire courses via an immersive, indoor, video game-like experience. And they can use their real clubs for each and every stroke. Some of the more advanced launch monitors feature dozens of real world courses to play.

In the past, golf launch monitors have been so expensive that the only place you’d find them would be professional settings, like high-tier pro shops. But today, there are golf launch monitors that are reasonably priced enough that setting up a full-size, indoor golf simulator in your garage isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

How Does a Golf Launch Monitor Work?

The magic of a golf launch monitor lies in its clever use of the latest technology. But depending on the kind of launch monitor you’re looking at, the tech can differ in significant ways.

There are two primary kinds of launch monitors.

Radar Launch Monitors

Radar launch monitors analyze your golf shots with precision by harnessing the power of Doppler radar, the same technology used in weather forecasting and police speed guns.

When you take a swing, the launch monitor emits radio waves that bounce off the moving golf ball as it heads down the fairway. These waves return to the device and are analyzed to determine how the ball was hit. This analysis provides a wealth of data about the ball’s speed, trajectory, spin, and overall flight path.

Camera Launch Monitors

These monitors employ high-speed, HD cameras (anywhere from two to four cameras are used, depending on the model of the golf launch monitor), often filming at thousands of frames per second, to capture a comprehensive view of your golf ball’s journey from clubface to the air.

As soon as your club makes contact with the ball, the cameras spring into action. They record the ball’s speed, launch angle, spin, and direction with incredible precision. This isn’t just a snapshot; it’s a super slow-motion video, offering a frame-by-frame analysis of the ball’s behavior. The sophisticated software then jumps in, crunching numbers and translating it all into actionable data.

Think of it as having a high-speed, ultra-precise eye that catches every twist and turn of the ball, something even the sharpest human eye would miss. These monitors can dissect your swing, offering insights into the intricacies of your game.

While both kinds of launch monitors are accurate, the camera models tend to offer a greater degree of accuracy. Though that accuracy can come with a hefty price tag.

How Can a Golf Launch Monitor Improve My Game?

For golfers looking to hone their skills, a launch monitor can be an indispensable tool. By providing detailed data on each shot, it allows players to understand exactly what happens during their swing and how it affects the ball’s flight.

This information can be used to make adjustments in technique, club selection, and swing mechanics. Here are a few practical suggestions for how you can use a launch monitor to improve your game:

Get a Grip on Your Distance

It’s easy to accidentally add a few yards to your club distance estimate. And while it may not make a difference when you’re bragging at the club house, it can lead to major problems when you’re setting up your next shot.

Fortunately, you can use a launch monitor to get an accurate picture of every club’s distance. How? Take a range of shots with each club, using the same type of ball you’d use on the course. Record those distances and average for a reliable picture of how far you actually hit the ball.

Optimizing Wedge Distances

Ensuring consistent distance gaps across your clubs, particularly with wedges – the key scoring clubs – is crucial. Utilizing a launch monitor is invaluable in this aspect. It’s especially beneficial for understanding the travel distance of your ball on partial swings, like half or three-quarter swings.

Getting a handle on these challenging distances can significantly improve your scoring. A launch monitor offers critical feedback to help you master these nuances for a more refined game.

Train Comfortably Throughout the Year

Depending on where you live, practicing your game may be difficult – if not impossible – during certain times of the year. And while some golfers are committed enough to hit the links even when it’s approaching freezing, wouldn’t it be nice if you could practice comfortably all year long?

With a launch monitor, you can. All you need is a mat, a net, a computer, and a launch monitor. Then, you can practice drives, chips, and putts, all from the comfort of your (warm) home. When the weather warms back up, you won’t have missed a beat.

But launch monitors aren’t just great practice tools. Many of the latest golf launch monitors come with software that offers drills and games, making practice both effective and enjoyable. There are even games available that will let you play entire courses online with up to eight others. And much of this tech is still in its infancy. As time passes, we’ll only see the possibilities continue to increase.

Whether it’s increasing your driving distance, improving accuracy, or mastering the art of shot-shaping, a launch monitor provides the objective feedback needed to achieve these goals. Essentially, it’s like having a personal golf coach – and potentially dozens of real courses – at your disposal.

Is My Scotty Cameron Worth Refinishing?

August 25, 2023 by Austin Blankenship Leave a Comment

Is My Scotty Cameron Worth Refinishing?

Maybe you stumbled across an old, beat up Newport at a garage sale. Or it could be that you’ve had a Studio Design sitting in a spare golf bag for the past twenty years. Either way, you may be wondering, “Is my Scotty Cameron worth refinishing?”

While it’s probably not worth investing $150 or more in refinishing any old putter, Scotty Camerons aren’t your average club.

They’re something special.

Why Are Scotty Cameron Putters So Popular?

No brand in golf is more closely associated with premium putters than Scotty Cameron. And it’s not just because their putters have led hundreds of pros to tour victories over the past 20+ years.

It’s the top-of-the-line materials and overall attention to detail. It’s the balance and feel of the club in your hand. It’s the flow of each stroke and the uniquely crisp sound as it strikes the ball.

It’s true. The Scotty Cameron name is worth something all on its own. But if their putters weren’t consistently delivering, the name wouldn’t mean a thing.

Scotty Cameron is synonymous with quality and reliability. This is why their clubs are so popular. And it’s the reason they hold their value better than almost any other putter on the market.

It’s also why you should consider having yours refinished to its original condition.

Determining the Value of Your Scotty Cameron Putter

Thinking about sending your putter into the Scotty Custom Shop or another putter restoration specialist? If so, you should start by assessing your club’s current value.

Your Scotty Cameron putter’s value is a major factor in whether to refinish it.

So, what’s your club worth? Consider the following factors:

Putter Condition

It shouldn’t be a surprise that your putter’s overall condition is the number one thing to consider when evaluating its value. A putter that’s still in pristine condition will always be worth more than one showing signs of wear.

Pay particular attention to the club face and sole. These areas are the ones most affected by use. And damage there is more likely to impact performance.

Putter Rarity

Over the years, Scotty Cameron has released dozens of putter models. And that doesn’t just include tried-and-true clubs like the various Newports. They’ve also crafted limited edition models and other, rarer putters.

Needless to say, your model’s rarity will play a huge role in how much it is worth. If you happen to have one made for Tiger, you could have a small goldmine on your hands.

Modifications

The last major factor in determining your club’s value is how original it is. While mods can enhance the club’s performance and aesthetics, they probably won’t increase its value. If anything, they’ll bring it down.

Scotty Cameron enthusiasts generally prefer putters in their original state.

Estimating Your Scotty Cameron’s Value

Once you’ve got a good handle on your putter’s condition, rarity, and any mods, you’ll be ready to estimate its value.

You can start by browsing recent sales of similar putters. Check eBay and other auction sites. Look at dedicated golf equipment marketplaces. Do a search on any popular online golf forums.

As you look, remember that asking price doesn’t always indicate actual price. Just because you find a dozen auctions pricing your club at $450 doesn’t mean they’re selling. So be sure to estimate your club’s worth based on the value of items that have actually sold.

You should be able to get a solid grip on your club’s value by researching online sales. But if you’re still uncertain, you could always get a professional appraisal. This is especially the case if your club is particularly rare or unusual.

The Basics of Refinishing Your Scotty Cameron

What does it mean to have your Scotty Cameron putter restored? Is it nothing more than a facelift? Or could it have the potential to improve your club’s performance, extending its lifespan and your investment?

Before you spend hundreds of dollars on custom work, you need to understand what refinishing a club is all about.

So, What is Refinishing, Exactly?

Refinishing a club includes cleaning, repairing, and restoring it to its original condition. This means removing old paint fill, scratches, dings, and rust. It can involve giving the club a new finish, painting it, and even re-grooving the clubface.

But the goal of refinishing isn’t the creation of something new. It’s restoring it to its original look and performance.

Why Should I Consider Refinishing My Club?

There are dozens of reasons you might consider refinishing your putter.

Maybe you want to repair any wear or minor damage, so you can continue to enjoy it. Maybe you hope to sell it, and you know its value will increase after it’s refinished. Or maybe you’d like to pass it down to a son or grandson, and you want it to look its best.

Not only will a refinished club look and play better, but it will be better protected from the elements as well as future wear.

But is it always worth the cost?

Weighing the Costs of Refinishing Golf Clubs

The cost of refinishing your putter will vary wildly, depending on who does the work.

Many Scotty Cameron owners assume that the only game in town is the Scotty Cameron Custom Shop. There are some really good reasons to put them at the top of your list. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t shop around, especially if you aren’t planning on reselling.

Why Choose the Scotty Cameron Custom Shop?

The most die-hard Scotty Cameron enthusiasts swear by the company’s custom shop. After all, they’re the ones who crafted the club in the first place. So it only makes sense that they’d be best equipped to refinish it.

The custom shop can fix your putter and make it look new again. But that’s not all. They can also customize it to perfectly fit you.

And once they’re finished, they can authenticate it and register it in their database. That way, there’s no question that it’s legit.

This is definitely the route to go if you think you’ll ever want to sell it.

But all those benefits will cost you.

You’ll pay anywhere from $325 to $450 for a complete refinishing job from Scotty’s Custom Shop.

Why Choose Another Custom Shop?

There are dozens of other custom shops out there that specialize in refinishing golf clubs, including Scotty Camerons. You may even have one within driving distance of you. But even if you don’t, you can find plenty of options online.

Generally, you’ll pay significantly less to have your putter refinished at one of these unofficial custom shops. And if you choose a well-reviewed one, you may not even notice any difference between it and Scotty’s Custom Shop. Just be sure to shop around and read reviews before finalizing things.

But be warned: If you go the unofficial route, you won’t be able to send your club into Scotty at a later date. Scotty’s Custom Shop will only work on clubs that are original.

A Few Closing Thoughts

Hopefully, you’re a lot closer to answering that question we started with: “Is my Scotty Cameron worth refinishing?”

Refinishing it has the potential to breathe new life into your club. It can restore its original performance. And it can make it look as good as new.

But it will come at a cost.

Whether that cost is worth it or not hinges on your club and your intentions.

Whatever you choose to do, remember that your Scotty Cameron isn’t just any golf club. It’s a finely crafted piece of equipment that’s meant to last you a lifetime of fun and frustration.

Scotty Cameron My Girl Putters: A Retrospective

August 24, 2023 by Austin Blankenship Leave a Comment

Scotty Cameron My Girl Putters

Scotty Cameron is best known for PGA tour-winning putters like the Newport 2 and Phantom X. But there’s another, softer side to this golf legend. It’s a side that’s seen each year when his special edition Scotty Cameron My Girl putter is released.

Whether you’re looking for a new ladies putter yourself, hoping to pick up a new club for that special someone in your life, or simply want to collect one of the most well-known ladies putters on the market, you need to consider the Scotty Cameron My Girl.

So, let’s look at what makes the My Girl such a unique ladies putter. Then, we can take a minute to reflect back on all the My Girl putters that Cameron has released over the past twenty years.

What is the Scotty Cameron My Girl Putter?

Inspired by the girls in his life, Cameron has been designing and releasing an annual My Girl putter since 2002.

These unique ladies putters embrace the same attention to detail and performance as the rest of Cameron’s putters. But they’ve been specially crafted to offer female golfers a club that’s as beautiful as it is effective.

Each year, Scotty has taken pains to get every aspect of these clubs perfect, from the graphic designs and finish, to the grip, shaft, headcover, and more. He strives to create a club that’s balanced and features the highest quality feel, sound, and consistency possible.

These aren’t just great ladies putters. They’re great putters, period.

2002 My Girl Putter: Newport Mil-Spec

And its Black Pearl finish and color coordinated head, grip, and headcover make it a putter that looks as great as it plays. The Top 9 Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters Ever Sold

August 16, 2023 by Austin Blankenship Leave a Comment

Scotty Cameron is known for crafting some of the world’s highest quality, most valuable putters on the market. An average Scotty Cameron putter can easily set you back $400 or more.

And a brand name isn’t the only thing behind that high price point. Advanced designs, precision engineering, and premium materials have been setting Scotty Cameron putters apart from the competition since 1992.

But there are a handful of clubs that take things to the next level. These clubs are so rare and valuable, they’d make even the highest rolling golfers blush.

These are the top 10 most valuable Scotty Cameron putters ever sold.

1st, 2nd & 3rd Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Tiger Woods’s Titleist Scotty Cameron Backup Putters – $393,300, $328,576 & $154,928

Tiger Woods has taken home 14 of his 15 major championships with a Scotty Cameron Newport II at his side. But these didn’t come factory standard.

Scotty worked personally with Tiger to ensure each club fit him like a glove. This is why he had a couple backups produced for practice and emergency situations.

One of those Newport II backups sold in August 2021 for a whopping $393,300, making it the highest selling putter ever. And while this wasn’t the club Tiger used to win the Masters in 2002, it does look just like it. It even features the same “cherry bombs” on the club head that reveal where Cameron drilled holes to make the putter slightly lighter in Tiger’s hand.

A year after that club sold, another of Tiger’s Newport 2 backup putters went up for auction. But this time around it fetched a more modest $328,576.

Rounding out our top three list is yet another Tiger Woods Newport II backup putter. Though this one sold in 2020 for ‘only’ $154,928. While that may seem like a deal when compared to its two, higher-priced, counterparts, its selling price is still nearly three times that of the next club on our list.

For now, there seems little chance that the top three most valuable Scotty Cameron putters will lose their spots. That is, until Tiger decides to sell the one, true Elder Wand. Experts think it could fetch up to $10 million.

4th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Bernhard Langer’s 1993 Masters Tournament Scotty Cameron Putter – $59,097.60

While Bernhard Langer eked out a Masters victory in 1985, he’d always struggled with his putting game. At the same time, Scotty Cameron was trying to make a name for himself outside of the big brands where he’d launched his career as a putter designer.

In the early 90s, Langer ran into Scotty and asked him to design something for him that would fit his grip. The result was a Classic I, featuring a black oxide finish with Langer’s initials etched on the club face.

Bernhard Langer went on to win the 1993 Masters with that early Scotty Cameron putter. But Langer wasn’t the only one who won that day. Scotty Cameron’s reputation subsequently skyrocketed. And the rest is history.

So, it’s no surprise that Langer’s 1993 Masters-winning Classic I has the number four spot on our list of most valuable Scotty Cameron putters ever sold. At nearly $60,000, it may seem like a bargain when compared to Tiger’s Newport II backups. But its value towers over everything else on our list – and for good reason.

An easy argument could be made that Langer’s Classic I is the single most important Scotty Cameron putter ever crafted.

5th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Titleist Scotty Cameron Tiger Woods Stainless Limited Edition – $20,000

Yes. It’s another Tiger Woods Scotty Cameron putter. But this time it isn’t one that Tiger’s ever had in his bag.

Instead, it’s a limited edition, Scotty Cameron Newport II that’s designed to the exact specifications of Tiger’s own club. SCI produced these replicas so anyone could own a putter just like Tiger – or at least twenty-one people willing to shell out $20,000.

Unfortunately, owning a putter that’s identical to Tiger’s won’t give you his skill. You’ll need to hit the practice green for that.

6th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Titleist Scotty Cameron Tiger Woods 1997 Masters TE I3 – $20,000

We promise this is the last time you’ll see Tiger’s name on this list.

In 1997, a 21-year-old rookie named Tiger Woods exceeded everyone’s expectations (except for maybe his own) and won his first Masters – by twelve strokes. That win changed the game of golf forever.

Scotty Cameron commemorated Tiger’s seminal win by producing 270 limited edition replicas, complete with Tiger Woods’ signature etched into the putter’s sole.

When they were initially released, these limited edition clubs would run you $20,000. While that’s a hefty price to pay for a putter, this is more than a putter. It’s a piece of golf history.

7th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Titleist Scotty Cameron Tour Putter 009 – $9,500

There are several varieties of the Scotty Cameron Tour Only 009 putter, though each one features brushed black carbon and a unique design on the cavity.

The 009 in the name (and on the club) is a reference to San Diego’s zip code – the location of Cameron’s studio. And you’ll need to be comfortable with San Diego-level prices if you’re going to pick one of these up since they’ll set you back around $10,000.

8th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Titleist Scotty Cameron Tour My Girl Putter – $8,800

Since 2002, Scotty Cameron has released a limited edition (500-1,500 produced each year) line of ladies putters inspired by the girls in his life. Their unique look has made these Scotty Cameron ladies putters highly sought after collector’s items.

The designs and finishes have changed through the years, making some editions much more valuable than others. But you won’t find one in good condition for much less than $2,500. Browse eBay and you’ll see that they can sell for as high as $6,000-$8,000.

9th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Titleist Scotty Cameron Damascus Grand – $6,750

Damascus steel is most famous as a metal used for crafting swords. But put something like that in Scotty Cameron’s hands and he’ll inevitably craft a one-of-a-kind putter.

The Scotty Cameron Damascus Grand is a premium putter that’s designed to feel as great as it looks. And with a deep center of gravity, it’ll help you achieve that smooth, rolling putt that you’ve been longing for.

That’s why you won’t be able to put one in your bag unless you’re willing to part with $5,000 to $6,000.

10th Most Valuable Scotty Cameron Putters: Scotty Cameron Circle T Putter – $5,000 to $40,000

In the mid-1990s, a box of putters intended for the PGA Tour went to the LPGA Tour instead. This mishap led Cameron to put a Circle T stamp on putters intended for the men’s tour.

Such a simple, unassuming beginning. But that Circle T stamp denoted something more to many players. It set tour putters apart from their retail counterparts. And it’s one of the reasons that their values increased to sometimes astronomical levels.

Depending on the head material and how the putter is stamped, a Circle T Scotty Cameron’s value can fluctuate wildly. So if you’re looking to feel like a pro (even if you can’t play like one), then you may want to look into picking up your own Circle T. It’ll only set you back $5,000 to $40,000.
