We received a counterfeit Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 2009 wedge and thought it would be a good idea to show everyone how to spot the fakes. There are a few differences that are easily noticeable when compared to the real thing.
Counterfeit Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 2009 Wedge Differences
- The grip is installed with the Titleist logo up, and the grip installation is uneven down close to the bottom.
- The shaft band is a little different as you can see in the pictures.
- The main giveaway has to do with the lettering on the back of the wedge. While the real wedges have a dot between the loft and bounce, the fake wedge has a dash. The words Titleist and the BV initials are also a good bit bolder on the real wedge.
- The finish on the fake tour chrome version is much shinier than the real thing.
- The serial number on the real wedge is etched in the metal. The serial number on the fake looks more like it has been laser etched and appears faded.
- The shape of the head is a little different with the fake having a more rounded leading edge.
- Finally, if you look carefully, the workmanship on the fake clubs is usually a little shoddy with the paint fill not being very accurate.
Take a look at the pictures to get a better idea of how to spot the fake and make sure you don’t end up with one.
Note: This wedge was purchased in the used section at a reputable golf shop, so don’t assume that just because it was a trade-in at a big name retailer that it is authentic.

i’ve been reading forums all day trying to figure out if the vokeys and 910 fairway wood I just bought on ebay are fake.
I’m somewhat surprised that out of the hundreds of threads i’ve read today, no one has posted this bit of really useful information:
